ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed):

Many of our neighbors in Lancaster County are struggling to afford basic needs. Today, 74,059 households, 34% of all households in our community, are living below the ALICE threshold.

When we think of who struggles to pay rent and put food on the table, we often talk about the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). In Lancaster County, 8% of families live below the FPL, which is 17,426 households. But they aren't alone. Another 56,633 individuals and families in our community live above the FPL and still can't afford the basics: rent, food, healthcare and more.

ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – households that earn more than the Federal Poverty Level but less than the basic cost of living for the county. ALICE often earns too much to qualify for government assistance but still isn’t able to make ends meet.
