Women United Annual Meeting Celebrates Community Impact and Honors the Legacy of Kay Burky

United Way of Lancaster County Women United gathered on May 19 for its Annual Meeting to celebrate another year of community impact, recognize past partners, and announce this year’s grant recipients supporting women and girls across Lancaster County.

Held from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Chamber, this year’s meeting carried special significance as members honored the life and legacy of longtime Women United member and past chair, Kay Burky, who passed away earlier this year. A dedicated advocate for women and families in Lancaster County, Kay had been an active member of Women United since 2009 and played a pivotal role in shaping the group’s growth and immense impact over the years.

In tribute to Kay’s legacy of generosity and service, her husband, Scott Burky, made a special surprise gift that will fully fund all 2026 Women United grant awards.

“Kay believed deeply in the power of women coming together to create meaningful change,” said Kate Zimmerman, President & CEO of United Way of Lancaster County “Because of Scott’s incredible generosity in honoring her legacy, these organizations will be able to continue important work that strengthens opportunities and support systems for women and girls throughout our community.”

Women United announced the following 2026 grant recipients, each receiving the maximum fully funded grant award of $20,000:

  • Union Community Care

  • YWCA Lancaster

  • Church World Service

  • Lititz Public Library

  • Girls on the Run Lancaster

  •

The grants will support programs and initiatives focused on improving the health and overall well-being of women and girls in Lancaster County.
